FoAI CDT Open Day

Virtual Open Day events were held on Tuesday 4th November at 9.30 AM and 3PM (UK time)

They were a chance to find out more about the EIT CDT in Fundamentals of AI and how you could carry out a fully-funded PhD at the University of Oxford?

There was time to explain more about the programme itself and provide some advice on the application process.

Dr Michah Bowles

EIT Research Engineer

Micah works on research AI for science in various ways, currently working with a team on predicting antimicrobial resistances of pathogens. Micah joined EIT from the University of Oxford, where Micah held a Schmidt AI in Science fellowship to research multimodal foundation models in Astrophysics.

Dr Flaviu Cipcigan

EIT Research Scientist

Flaviu was a Staff Research Scientist at IBM Research, mixing tech leadership and coding and building foundation models, trained generative models, and used them to discover new materials and molecules. Highlights include new antimicrobial peptides and materials for carbon capture. Flaviu’s PhD is in physics from the University of Edinburgh, where he developed new methods for simulating intermolecular interactions.
